Advanced Higher Education For Battery Lifecycle And Sustainability
The BTRexpert Project addresses critical challenges in battery lifecycle, sustainability, and recycling through the development of an innovative and comprehensive e-learning course. The project focuses on equipping students and professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute to a sustainable battery sector, aligning with environmental, economic, and social sustainability goals. The project validates and refines educational resources to enhance existing curricula, develops an interactive digital tool to improve comprehension of battery recycling processes, and creates cross-disciplinary training materials and an accessible e-learning platform. By providing learners with critical competences in battery lifecycle management and sustainability, the project enables them to apply theoretical knowledge to solve real-life challenges in battery recycling. Comprehensive training materials, methodologies, and results are shared with a wide audience to raise awareness and promote sustainable practices. Additionally, the project highlights the potential of the ‘Battery Reuse Expert’ professional profile to key stakeholders in the battery industry, ensuring alignment with industry needs and addressing labor market demands.
- Developing an Advanced E-Learning Course: Design and deliver a holistic, cross-disciplinary e-learning course comprising five modules, focusing on battery lifecycle, sustainability, and recycling. This course integrates engineering, materials science, and environmental studies to provide learners with essential competences.
- Enhancing Digital and Green Skills: Equip learners with critical digital tools, such as Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) software, and foster green competences aligned with the GreenComp framework. These skills address sustainability challenges in battery recycling and recovery processes.
- Establishing the ‘Battery Reuse Expert’ Profile: Define and promote a new professional profile, the “Battery Reuse Expert,” capable of addressing technical issues related to battery lifecycle and sustainability. This role supports the circular economy and aligns with the EU Green Deal’s objectives.
- Developing Comprehensive Training Materials: Create interactive and accessible training materials, including the BTR-Trainer digital toolbox and user-friendly e-learning platform. These resources support learners in exploring innovative solutions to maximize battery lifecycle and reuse components.
- Validating and Refining Educational Resources: Conduct scientific reviews, interviews with higher education lecturers, and consultations with industry representatives to validate and enhance the course content. This ensures alignment with academic and industry needs.
- Promoting Practical Learning: Implement a case-based approach in the course design, allowing learners to solve real-world challenges through hands-on activities and practical scenarios. This fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Supporting Micro-Credentials: Utilize badge-based micro-credentials to certify learners’ achievements, ensuring recognition across academic and vocational education sectors.
- Fostering Dissemination and Awareness: Share project results widely through webinars, conferences, publications, and online platforms. This raises awareness of the importance of battery recycling and sustainability among stakeholders, policymakers, and the general public.
- Addressing Labor Market Needs: Reduce skill mismatches by aligning the course objectives with the demands of the battery industry. The project emphasizes employability by developing competences highly valued in the job market, such as initiative-taking, teamwork, and experiential learning.
- Contributing to a Circular Economy: Enhance understanding of battery recycling processes to improve resource efficiency and sustainability. This includes promoting the reuse of materials and reducing the EU’s dependence on imported rare metals.
The BTRexpert Project aims to not only advance educational opportunities but also create a lasting impact on sustainability and innovation in the battery sector, ensuring alignment with EU priorities and addressing global environmental challenges.
